Fascial Release for Structural Balance

By James Earls & Tom Myers

Fascia is our biological fabric that plays a vital role in support, posture, and stability. In recent years, the topic of fascia has attracted many scientific research and gain great interests in the world of massage therapy. In Fascial Release for Structural Balance, authors James Earls and Thomas Myers—both respected bodyworkers—argue that approaching the fascia requires “a different eye, a different touch, and tissue-specific techniques.” Designed for bodyworkers using manual therapy, including massage therapists, this book offers a detailed introduction to structural anatomy and fascial release techniques, including postural analysis, complete technique descriptions, and the art of proper assessment of a patient through “BodyReading.” Through informed assessment and manipulation of fascial patterns, it is hoped that the therapists can help address many chronic strain patterns clients bring to the clinic.

This book is 287 pages, printed in colour with more than 400 coloured photographs and illustrations, composed of 9 chapters. Chapter 1 gives an introduction to fascial release technique, followed by Chapter 2 on developing the skills of touch, and the authors proposed the DASIE (Development, Assessment, Strategy, Intervention, Ending) model for structural bodywork. Chapter 3 gives an overview on the art of BodyReading. Chapters 5 through 9 provide the anatomy & techniques for specific parts of the body: the foot & lower leg, the knee and thigh, the hip, the abdomen, thorax & breathing, the spine, the shoulder and arm. Each chapter starts with the anatomy of related bones, ligaments & muscles, BodyReading technique and the fascial release techniques. The book ended with Appendices on the anatomy trains and contraindications.

Author James Earls practices Structural Integration and massage therapy in Belfast and is the director of Ultimate Massage Solutions and Kinesis UK. He studied under Tom Myers, and regularly teaches in the Anatomy Trains workshops throughout Europe. Author Thomas Myers is the author of the famous Anatomy Trains books (Elsevier 2001, 2009). Tom teaches certification in Structural Integration and continuing professional development courses worldwide for manual and movement therapists from many professions.

This book is just recently published in Spetember 2010, and available from www.terrarosa.com.au  at $39.95.
