Law and Ethics in Complementary Medicine
A handbook for practitioners in Australia and New Zealand 4th edition
Established as the most widely used reference in the field, Law and Ethics in Complementary Medicine is a comprehensive handbook for professionals, students and researchers.
Covering a wide range of complementary modalities, it deals with legal and ethical issues in clinical relationships and provides practical guidelines for setting up and running a professional practice. Michael Weir systematically outlines the various aspects of the law which impact on clinical practice, including legal obligations to clients, consumer legislation and complaints processes, and professional boundaries. He explains how to navigate professional indemnity insurance, and the steps you need to take in setting up a professional practice from establishing a business name to dealing with employees. He also outlines the role of codes of ethics, and explores how to deal with tricky ethical issues in daily practice.
This fourth edition is fully updated and addresses recent changes in regulation and case law, including the introduction of national boards to cover each registered health profession in Australia. For the first time it also covers aspects of regulation of complementary medicine modalities in New Zealand.

Jesse Sleeman
For the past 25 years Jesse Sleeman has been the court jester of natural therapies in Australia, playfully challenging the established beliefs of public audiences, as well as complementary medicine practitioners and students alike with his oftentimes apparently radical ideas.
Since the 1950s the prevalence of the so-called ‘diseases of civilisation’ - cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, autism, and so on—has continued to skyrocket in Western countries. Today, as the same story is beginning to be repeated in newly industrialised nations, modern diseases are reaching pandemic proportions.
Why has this happened? The medical profession’s spin is that the culprit is the aging of the population. But, as Cry for Health (Vol 1) reveals, there is overwhelming evidence for why our populations are ailing, evidence health authorities and governments have chosen to ignore, or have refused to acknowledge, or have kept hidden from the public to keep them clueless to the real culprits: many modern technologies and our modern lifestyles.
In unravelling this story, the book firstly identifies the extent of the modern pandemic, the saga of death by doctoring, and the many reasons for iatrogenic disease; secondly it exposes the failure of medical science to fully understand life, health and disease because of its denial of the existence of the vital force; and thirdly it explores the impact of man-made chemicals, electropollution, and modern farming and food processing practices on our health.
The level of misinformation and general nonsense that evolved to become ‘common knowledge’ about legendary Geelong healer Tom Bowen, inspired former journalist (and lots of other stuff) turned manual therapist turned Bowen Therapy school director, Col Murray, to set out on a journey to set the record straight. Along the way he tells the story of this special and often troubled Australian set against the emergence of a remarkable manual healing technique and the misinformation, jealousies, ego-tripping and outright silliness that has surfaced in the race to make the work known to the world.
This book is an informative and entertaining romp through the world of natural therapies and the environment in which they operate, stopping occasionally to take a few pot-shots at those whom the author feels might be doing Bowen an injustice, including orthodoxy and its tunnel-visioned restraints.
And some in the Bowen Therapy world.

By Stephanie Kaza
Written by environmentalist Stephanie Kaza, Mindfully Green: A personal and spiritual guide to whole-earth thinking, argues that while practical approaches to an eco-responsible lifestyle offer important first steps, it is vital that we ground these actions in a broader understanding and personal commitment.

Holism and Complementary Medicine offers an informed exploration of the central principles that underlie the various forms of complementary medicine.
The perspectives presented in Holism and Complementary Medicine have been drawn from nearly three decades of experience as both an educator in and a practitioner of complementary medicine in the Australian context. More importantly, these perspectives have been deepened and refined through collaborative discussions with colleagues who have also served as educator-practitioners of complementary medicine. It offers a detailed exploration of those signatory attributes that differ from those of biomedicine.
Primary among these is the concept of holism.
Holism and Complementary Medicine presents a systematic overview of traditional healing practices, the development of the Western biomedical model, and the holistic philosophy which forms the basis of complementary and alternative medicine in the West.
This book offers an accessible guide for anyone interested in the origins and core principles of natural therapies.
